🌟 Happy Labor Day! 🌟 Today we celebrate the hard work and dedication of all workers who contribute to our communities and economy. As Justice of the Peace, I see every day the hard work and dedication of our Washington County employees. They're the ones who keep our county running and its doors open. Let’s take a moment to relax, recharge, and honor the achievements of people everywhere and all the good things that come from our collective efforts. Enjoy the long weekend! 💪🇺🇸 #LaborDay #HardWorkPaysOff #RestAndRecharge
🌟 No Washington County governmental meetings for this week are posted on the county calendar as of 9/1/24. The next scheduled meeting is a combined Finance & Budget and County Services meeting Tuesday, 9/10/24 6:00 PM, Washington County Courthouse.
🌟 The Washington County Planning and Zoning Board met 8/28/24. That meeting can be watched here:
The purpose of the meeting was to allow community members to come and learn about the new zoning rules and regulations for Washington County. Here’s the link to the proposed zoning map: https://arcserv.co.washington.ar.us/portal/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=d9b303c6b360476fa12d77232752413e
The zoning ordinance as proposed is 183 pages long and while I’ve tried comparing the old with the new, it’s pretty much impossible for one person to do. Washington County Attorney Brian Lester said Section 7 contains most of the new changes.
Here’s a very rough transcript of the hearing.
What we pass into law will change the landscape of Washington County for decades, if not forever, so it’s very important we get it right. I suspect the judge is going to push to get this passed before the end of the year (new court on 1/1/25) so now’s the time to speak up.
Please call me or contact me via text or email: ejcoger@gmail.com or 479-306-9994 with questions or comments and I will do my best to get you answers. Please share this information with people you know who own land in unincorporated portions of the county.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended last week’s meeting.

⇒ 🌟 DETENTION CENTER INFORMATION 8/30/24
As of 8/30/24, there are at least 764 people reported as incarcerated in our county jail (likely more as some bookings are “restricted” and don’t show on the public dashboard) 87 of those are listed as homeless.

If we had real pretrial services, expanded drug courts, more public defenders, mental health services, drug addiction treatment for everyone, we would see our jail population reduced too, but we’re not doing that.
COUNTY BID POSTINGS
🌟 No new bids or RFQs as of this writing.
